Musk made the announcement yesterday in a tweet, citing too many "corrupt legacy Blue 'verification' check marks" as the reason for removing them. Until yesterday, Twitter's blue check marks could be purchased for $7.99/month, leading users to set up fake accounts impersonating brands and people. Twitter's new owner Elon Musk said on Monday the social media company is holding off the relaunch of its blue check subscription service, a delay from his initial tentative timeline to bring back the service on the platform. "Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation," Musk said in a tweet. "Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals." In Musk's new scheme, users will be compelled to subscribe to an $8 subscription to earn the privilege of receiving a blue badge, regardless of who they are. According to the micro-blogging site's CEO, 42,000 'notable' users on the platform were stripped off their verification badge yesterday.
