Orion returns to Earth, capping Artemis I flight around moon

NASA's Orion capsule barreled through Earth's atmosphere and splashed down in the Pacific ocean on Sunday after making an uncrewed voyage around the moon, winding up the inaugural mission of the US agency's new Artemis lunar program 50 years to the day after Apollo's final moon landing. The gumdrop-shaped Orion capsule, carrying a simulated crew of three mannequins wired with sensors, plunked down in the ocean at 9:40 a.m. PST (1740 GMT) off Mexico's Baja California peninsula, demonstrating a high-stakes homecoming before NASA flies its first crew of Artemis astronauts around the moon in the next few years. "This was a challenging mission, and this is what mission success looks like," NASA's Artemis I mission manager Mike Sarafin told reporters after splashdown, adding that his team didn't immediately notice any issues with Orion's return from space. A US  Military helicopter and a group of fast boats approached the capsule after...

Meta set to make decision on Trump’s return to Facebook

Facebook owner Meta Inc is preparing to announce whether it will allow former US President Donald Trump back on to Facebook and Instagram, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. The social media giant had previously said it will decide by Jan 7 whether to allow the former president to return . However, that decision is now expected to be announced later in the month, the newspaper said, citing a person familiar with the matter. Meta has set up a working group to focus on the matter, according to people with knowledge of its operations, the report said, adding that the group includes staffers from the public policy and communications teams, as well as from the content policy team. Meta did not immediately respond to a request by Reuters for comment. The development comes after Elon Musk, Twitter's new owner, revoked a permanent ban on Trump in November last year on the social media platform after polling users. Trump maintained that he had no int...

Trump's campaign talking with Meta about return to Facebook

Former US President Donald Trump told Fox News Digital on Wednesday that his campaign was in talks with Meta Platforms about a possible return to Facebook and Instagram, two years after the company banned him for inciting violence. "We are talking to them, and we'll see how it all works out," Trump said, according to the report. "If they took us back, it would help them greatly, and that's okay with me," he said. "But they need us more than we need them." Meta declined to comment to Reuters. Trump launched his bid to regain the presidency in 2024 in November. Meta, the world's biggest social media company, is set to make a controversial decision on the future of Trump's accounts this month. While Trump has shunned Twitter since its decision in November to restore his account, saying he preferred his own Truth Social platform, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Fox News Digital on Wednesday th...
