In a Game that could shake up the East standings, the Indiana Pacers are heading to Miami to take on the Heat with both teams coming off tough losses against very different opponents. While Miami couldn’t pull out the win against the mighty Milwaukee Bucks, the Pacers had it rougher, choking up against the Portland Trail Blazers. Despite Indiana falling to one of the worst teams in the league, the NBA odds still only have them as a two-point road underdog against the Heat. That’s the Tyrese Haliburton effect with the All-Star guard ready to pop off again tonight. iOS 17's NameDrop feature sparks privacy concerns

The latest iOS 17 update brings a new feature called NameDrop, enabling iPhone users to share their contacts by bringing their devices in close proximity. The feature received some backlash when it comes to privacy and safety. As per users, NameDrop is enabled by default and the feature presents a safety threat, particularly to children. The feature is crafted for seamless contact sharing, but it incorporates precautions to prevent accidental information sharing. Simply tapping two iPhones together doesn't trigger NameDrop as confirmation on the iPhone's display is required. Users must confirm both sharing and receiving contact information. Despite fearmongering in viral posts, the iPhone needs to be unlocked with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode for NameDrop to function. AI threat demands new approach to security designs

OTTAWA: The potential threat posed by the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) means safeguards need to be built in to systems from the start rather than tacked on later, a top US official said on Monday. "We've normalized a world where Technology products come off the line full of vulnerabilities and then consumers are expected to patch those vulnerabilities. We can't live in that world with AI," said Jen Easterly, director of the U.S. Cyber security and Infrastructure Security Agency. "It is too powerful, it is moving too fast," she said in a telephone interview after holding talks in Ottawa with Sami Khoury, head of Canada's Centre for Cyber Security. Easterly spoke the same day that agencies from 18 countries, including the United States, endorsed new British-developed guidelines on AI cyber security that focus on secure design , development, deployment and maintenance. "We have to look at security throughout the lifecycl

Putin says West can't have AI monopoly so Russia must up its game

President Vladimir Putin on Friday warned that the West should not be allowed to develop a monopoly in the sphere of artificial intelligence (AI), and said that a much more ambitious Russian strategy for the development of AI would be approved shortly. China and the United States are leading the development of AI, which many researchers and global leaders think will transform the world and revolutionise society in a way similar to the introduction of computers in the 20th century. Moscow has ambitions to be an AI power too, but its efforts have been set back due to the war in Ukraine which prompted many talented specialists to leave Russia and triggered Western sanctions that have hindered the country's high-tech imports. Speaking to an AI conference in Moscow beside Sberbank CEO German Gref, Putin said that trying to ban AI was impossible despite the sometimes troubling ethical and social consequences of new technologies. "You cannot ban something - if we ban it then it

ChatGPT maker OpenAI ousts CEO Sam Altman

OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati will serve as interim CEO, the company said, adding that it will conduct a formal search for a permanent CEO. The announcement blindsided many employees who discovered the abrupt management shuffle from an internal announcement and the company's public facing blog. "Altman's departure follows a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities," OpenAI said in the blog without elaborating. Greg Brockman, OpenAI president and co-founder, who stepped down from the board as chairman as part of the management shuffle, quit the company, he announced on messaging platform X late on Friday.
