iOS 17's NameDrop feature sparks privacy concerns

The latest iOS 17 update brings a new feature called NameDrop, enabling iPhone users to share their contacts by bringing their devices in close proximity. The feature received some backlash when it comes to privacy and safety. As per users, NameDrop is enabled by default and the feature presents a safety threat, particularly to children. The feature is crafted for seamless contact sharing, but it incorporates precautions to prevent accidental information sharing. Simply tapping two iPhones together doesn't trigger NameDrop as confirmation on the iPhone's display is required. Users must confirm both sharing and receiving contact information. Despite fearmongering in viral posts, the iPhone needs to be unlocked with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode for NameDrop to function. YouTube expands shopping features to combat digital ad slowdown

YouTube said on Tuesday it is bringing shopping feature s to its TikTok-like short-form video service, as the Alphabet-owned company looks to fortify its revenue against a drop in spending by recession-wary advertisers. The feature , being tested with eligible creators in the United States, will allow them to tag products from their own stores. "Viewers in the US, India, Brazil, Canada, and Australia can see the tags and interact with them and we'll continue to bring tagging to more creators and geographies," a Google spokesperson said. The streaming service is also testing new commission schemes for influencers who sell products through links in videos. This comes months after YouTube unveiled a new way for creators to make money on short-form videos, introducing advertising on its video feature Shorts and giving video creators 45% of the revenue. The internet's dominant video site has struggled to compete with TikTok, the app that got its start hosting lip-s...

Musk's X disabled feature for reporting electoral information

SYDNEY: Elon Musk's X, formerly called Twitter, disabled a feature that let users report misinformation about elections, a research organisation said on Wednesday, throwing fresh concern about false claims spreading just before major US and Australian votes. After introducing a feature in 2022 for users to report a post they considered misleading about politics, X in the past week removed the "politics" category from its drop-down menu in every jurisdiction but the European Union, said the researcher Reset.Tech Australia. Users could still report posts to X globally for a host of other complaints such as promoting violence or hate speech, the researcher added. X was not immediately available for comment. Removing a way for people to report suspected political misinformation may limit intervention at a time when social media platforms are under pressure to curtail falsehoods about electoral integrity, which have grown rapidly in recent years. Adobe Inc on Tuesday said it is adding artificial intelligence (AI) Technology for generating imagery into Photoshop, its flagship software for editing images. The San Jose, California-based company said it was the start of a major push to add such AI technologies to its suite of programs aimed at creative professionals. Adobe has sought to address those concerns with a core Technology system it calls Firefly, which was specifically created with legal-to-use image data and which Adobe says can be used in commercial settings.
