Millions of Facebook and Google users warned to make urgent change after ‘worrying’ find

Hundreds of thousands of people are continuing to use the same weak security passwords worldwide despite countless warnings to change them, cyber security experts discovered. Cybernews’s research team looked at 56 million breached and leaked passwords in 2022 and found an alarmingly high number of people are still using easy to guess passwords including swear words, keyboard sequences, cities and animals for sites such as Google and Facebook. Aussies warned over myGov cost of living ‘help’ payment scam messages

A cruel scam is targeting unsuspecting Australians struggling with rising cost of living expenses by promising a one-off myGov payment to “help you cope” with the crisis. The scam text, shared to Reddit, claims to be from the government service. But it instead works by duping the recipient into sharing their personal details. Google users warned of search scam email

Internet users are being advised to immediately delete and report an email that appears to be from Google offering a prize for helping the company reach a search milestone. One version of the email , posted online, congratulates the receiver for making the “18.25 billionth search ”. It claims Google will reward every 10 millionth search and provides a set of instructions to follow — including providing personal details — to claim a prize. Parents warned to protect children’s privacy when posting back-to-school photos

Parents are being warned to be extra vigilant about privacy when posting back- to- school photos online over grooming fears. Identifying details such as a child ’s name, school logo or location can pose a risk, according to Australian Federal Police. “Any information, however seemingly innocent, can make it the easier for offenders to build a profile of a child with the intention of grooming them,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Hilda Sirec said.
